Melo Hairapetian was trimming wood with a circular saw one day when his knees buckled, his jacket caught the saw and his hand was pulled down and his hand was destroyed
Melo lost his whole thumb and his pinky was just barely hanging on. He immediately went to the hospital where they tried as hard as they could to salvage his thumb but it was just too damaged. Moving on to the next option, they then removed one of his big toes and attached it where his thumb once was!
Lucky for Melo, things are working out and with therapy he has been able to figure out how to navigate regular activities like picking things up with his new toe thumb. Apparently though, one of the hardest parts was actually waiting for his other toe to be strong enough to make up for the lack of the big guy!
It's honestly pretty smart and impressive doctors are able to do that, but can you imagine looking at your thumb and thinking "remember when this was on my foot!?"
How does eating with a toe thumb feel? Would you immediately lose any kind of appetite? Can you still thumbs-up your friends? If not, how will they know you think they're cool? If you date someone into sucking toes, could they just suck your thumb? We have so many questions...Source: WGN 9
