If you're playing the roll of a mall Santa, the gig is pretty straight forward. You let kids sit on your lap, give an occasional "Ho Ho Ho!,
" and smile for pictures. But what about when you're off the clock? Are you still required to be jolly when you're just walking around the mall in costume? The management at one Montreal area mall thought so, and a Santa has been fired after complaints about his interactions with some children while off the clock.
Some parents reported that Santa was less than jolly when their children approached him while he was strolling around the mall after his shift. In one case, he pushed a child away who was coming in for a hug. In another case, he made a child cry after the child touched his beard. After numerous complaints on social media, Santa was fired because the mall said that he "did not live up to the expectations of our shoppers and our team." A new Santa has been hired, and now, everyone seems pretty happy.
