Nikolas Cruz, 19, was expelled from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and yesterday returned to the school around 2:40 p.m. with an AR-15 rifle and began a shooting rampage.
He made his way through the school shooting at students and teachers and as reported by The New York Times, police said "Cruz had killed 12 people inside the school and three outside it, including someone standing on a street corner."
Cruz fled to the nearby town of Coral Springs and was taken into custody. He was armed with "countless magazines," a gas mask, and smoke grenades.
The former student had raised red flags in the past with his behavior, hence why he was expelled.
Some students, while in lock-down, took to their phones to call their parents as well as use social media to show what it was like inside the nightmare.
Seventeen people lost their lives in this senseless tragedy and the Times has reported, "With the Parkland shooting, three of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern United States history have come in the last five months."
